Ambient Air Quality Measurement

Ambient air quality is an issue related to the cleanliness of the working environment air. The complexity of this issue stems from the different perception characteristics of people. Since people have different expectations from the air they are in, it is not easy to set precise limits for the working environment air quality. For this reason, acceptable air quality is used during the studies.

By acceptable air quality, it is meant that air quality is not present in known pollutants or does not exceed the levels set by standards, at least percent 80 and more of the people in such an environment are not disturbed. According to many research results, the level of pollutants in indoor environments is higher than in outdoor environments. Considering that people spend a fraction of their time indoors, such as 90, the air quality decreases if pollutants cannot be removed from these environments and the health of employees starts to be adversely affected.

Ambient air quality is not only important in terms of thermal comfort, but also in terms of employee health and efficiency.

Two approaches to controlling air quality in the workplace are generally preferred: ventilation and cleaning. However, it is also necessary to filter the air before introducing fresh air outside, ie before venting.

Human beings are one of the primary sources of pollution that impairs air quality in working environments. In addition, cigarette smoke, stove smoke, furniture, carpets, cleaning materials and tools and devices used in various forms are also pollutants. Outdoor pollutants are pollen in the air, dust, car exhausts and industrial pollutants.

As a result, workers exposed to pollutants in the work environment with poor air quality experience various health problems such as various infections, allergies, poisoning and fatigue. The way to prevent this depends on the measurement of parameters such as humidity, temperature, air velocity, carbon dioxide, respirable particulate matter, volatile organic compounds (VOC), carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, radon, formaldehyde, and number of bacteria. These measurements should be carried out to assess the status of the working environment air quality.

What is the Scope of Ambient Air Quality Measurement?

In 2013, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security issued the Regulation on Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment. According to the principles of this regulation, the environments and equipments used by the employees should be tested and inspected in certain intervals and according to certain methods. In this context, the environment of the employees should not harm the health and safety of the employees.

In addition, the Regulation on the Control of Industrial Air Pollution was issued by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization in 2009. In accordance with this regulation, there are many tests and analyzes that need to be done in order to measure air quality. The aim of this test and analysis is to determine the air quality of the working environments while ensuring that the outside air is clean. Here are a few of them: gas and dust emissions, special dust emissions, volatile organic compounds (VOC) and other organic emissions measurement, dust tests in outdoor and working environments (PM10, PM2,5 and special powders), measurement of inorganic and organic pollutants, pollutant sources and outdoor odor measurement. The number of microorganisms measured after the ambient air is purged should be lower than the number of microorganisms in the working environment.

There are many national and international standards to be taken as basis for the measurement of ambient air quality.

our organization TÜRCERT Technical Control and Certification Inc.provides measurement services in accordance with national and international standards and with an impartial approach. In addition, during these activities, TS EN ISO / IEC 17020 General Criteria for the Operation of Various Types of Inspection Organizations complies with the principles. If you need more detailed information about ambient air quality measurement, you can contact our employees.
