Lighting Measurements

Lighting is one of the most important factors affecting the productivity of the employees in the working environments in the enterprises. In order to provide a safe working environment, to make visual works easier and easier and to create a suitable field of vision, there is sufficient light in the working environment. Creating a safe working environment for businesses is a top priority. Improving occupational safety and visibility of workplace hazards is only possible in well-lit work environments.

The visual effect of a well-lit environment is certainly greater. However, in order for employees to feel better, the light level in the work environment should be sufficient. As mentioned at the beginning, lighting in the workplaces greatly affects the productivity of the employees and therefore of the enterprise.

The suitability of lighting in the enterprises is an important factor in the prevention of occupational accidents in the workplaces. Light intensity measurements are performed to determine whether lighting is sufficient. According to the results of these measurements carried out impartially and independently by various test and inspection organizations, if the lighting of the environment is not sufficient for a safe operation, the necessary precautions should be taken.

The general approach to lighting is to take advantage of daylight as much as possible. If this cannot be achieved, other lighting means should be consulted. In any case, the lighting system to be installed must be balanced with the use of daylight. This situation is important both for the eye health of the employees and the costs of the enterprise.

What is the scope of lighting measurements?

In the existing lighting system, the intensity of the lighting and the distribution of the luminosity in the working environment are directly proportional to the fact that employees perform their jobs quickly, safely and comfortably. As the intensity of illumination increases, the details of the work are revealed. This reduces the risk of employees making mistakes and accidents. In many studies, it has been observed that the effect of adequate enlightenment on working environments is high in increasing employee performance.

Illumination measurements are carried out to determine whether the light intensity in the workplace is appropriate and sufficient. Businesses should be properly illuminated depending on the sector in which they operate and their fields of activity.

In accordance with the Regulation on Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, it is obligatory for enterprises to test and inspect the environments and equipment used by the employees in certain intervals and in accordance with certain methods. Measurements within this scope include illumination or light intensity measurements. There are many national and international standards to be used in these measurements. Here are a few standards that are taken into account when performing lighting measurements:
