Simply put, three factors must be combined for the combustion event: heat, oxygen and flammable substances. Therefore, one of these three factors must be eliminated to extinguish the fire. It is as important to ensure that a fire does not grow, as well as measures to prevent fire. Apart from natural disasters, a fire is probably caused by mistakes made by people.
When a fire breaks out, the systems installed to intervene until the fire department arrives, extinguish small fires and assist the fire brigade are called fire installations. A fire installation must be located not only in factories or enterprises, but also in residences, shopping malls, hotels, hospitals, government offices, in short all buildings. But it doesn't end with just installing fire installations. The installed system must also be operable and reliable. Fire installation is not as effective as expected in some cases.
When installing a fire installation, factors such as the ability to deliver sufficient pressure and quantity of water in the event of fire must be taken into account as well as practical. In addition, the installed fire installation should be maintained at regular intervals. If these are not done, the system cannot be benefited.
There are mainly two types of fire installation, dry and wet. In the pipes forming the dry fire installation, compressed air or nitrogen gas is present instead of water. In the event of a fire, the first response is made with them. Dry fire installations are used in narrow streets where firefighters cannot enter, on the upper floors of buildings or in closed bazaars. During the fire, water is supplied to these pipes by the connection made by the fire department. In dry fire systems operated automatically, depending on the heat generated during the fire, the water spray nozzle expands and water is filled into the pipes. When the pipes are filled with water, the system starts to spray water automatically. Wet fire installations are generally used in tall buildings and are designed using a pipe network with pressurized water.
Importance of Fire Installation and Hose Measurement
Fire installation is an extremely important system in terms of security. For this reason, it must be installed by qualified and qualified persons. At the same time, fire installation and hose measurements should be done at least once a year to the organizations providing test and inspection services in this regard.
In the annex of the Regulation on Health and Safety in the Use of Work Equipment, issues related to maintenance, repair and periodic checks (Annex-III), fire installation and hose measurement are included in the subject of installations. Accordingly, firstly, it is checked whether the fire installation and hose measurements are suitable for the criteria stipulated in the project. Following this, an assessment of conformity with the conditions specified in the standards described below is performed.
