Crane Inspection

In history, cranes were used by the Romans in the tenth years of BC. As can be seen from the drawings reached today, these early crane designs show a pulley on top of the mast. A rope passing through the pulley is connected to the loads and the load is raised to the air with the help of a foot mill surrounded by slaves. The first cranes working with the pulley were seen in Italy in the fifteenth century. By the nineteenth century, this time, cranes powered by steam power emerge.

Cranes are powerful machines that are among the lifting and conveying equipment today. They are used to lift loads and transfer them from one place to another. Today, it has a wide variety of types depending on its usage areas, dimensions and working systems.

Cranes are a machine consisting of pulleys and ropes mounted on a long arm to lift a heavy load high. Depending on the load to be lifted by the crane, the length of the arm and the number of pulleys to which the ropes are wound may vary. Some cranes are capable of lifting a heavy load and moving it in a vertical or horizontal plane. Cranes provide these movements with the help of the motors on them. Workshop-type cranes with arm strength have lower lifting capacity.

However, when it comes to lifting a weight and moving it to a place, the danger dimension of the work is always present. Cranes should be kept under regular control in order to avoid any accidents. However, unpredictable situations are often encountered due to the use of cranes by unqualified or untrained persons, misuse and misuse of the cranes, and sometimes neglect of their regular maintenance.

Control and Inspection Principles of Cranes

In accordance with the provisions of the Regulation on Health and Safety in the Use of Work Equipment, employers have to take into account the specific working conditions in the workplace and hazardous conditions in terms of health and safety in selecting their machinery and equipment to be used in their facilities and to ensure that these machinery and equipment do not present a danger during use. However, if employers cannot, however, ensure that the health and safety of these machines and equipment are completely safe, the employer must at least take the necessary measures to reduce the risks to an acceptable level.

our organization TÜRCERT Technical Control and Certification Inc.conducts regular checks of cranes located between the lifting and conveying equipment of the enterprises and reports the detected errors and dangerous situations to the operation. Regular inspection of the cranes ensures timely precautions for risks that might endanger or damage the safety of workers and the enterprise.

The aforementioned regulation includes the criteria to be considered during the control periods and controls and the relevant standards according to the types and characteristics of the cranes used in the operation.

The standards considered during the inspection of cranes are:

  • TS 10116 Lifting and conveying machines - Cranes - Inspection and test methods
  • Steel wire ropes - Safety - Section 12385: Operation and maintenance information
  • TS EN 13157 + A1 Cranes - Safety - Hand-driven lifting equipment
  • TS ISO 4309 Cranes - Wire ropes - Application rules for inspection and decommissioning
  • TS ISO 12480-1 Cranes - Safe use - Section 1: General

Our company TÜRCERT Technical Control and Certification Inc., a competent manager and employee staff and has a strong infrastructure. It provides high quality, reliable and fast inspection services of cranes of any size and capacity.
