Compressor and Air Tank Inspection

Compressors are motorized machines used to compress air or gases at a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure. In other words, it compresses the air it receives from outside and increases its pressure. The compressors are used to obtain air support in environments where compressed air is required or in pneumatic operating systems. Pneumatic, compressed air power tools and operating elements are required to operate the applications.

In the past, the first compressor applications were made in 1650. With the presence of compressed air compressor machine, lighter machines were made. In the years 187o, cooling operations have started to be done with compression. However, today's cooling systems are slightly different from these early applications.

The general operating principle of the compressors is to provide the air from outside to be used at higher pressures. Although compressed air works well for many businesses, it is costly. Therefore, for the economical use of compressed air, it is necessary to choose the right compressor and ensure its continuous operation. A suitable compressor is the compressor that uses the lowest electrical energy during use and obtains the most efficient air.

It is the lifeblood of compressor cooling systems. When the compressors fail, siztem is also defective. Compressor problems are important and need to be solved quickly.

The most prominent feature of the air tanks is that it absorbs the air pressure at the compressor outlet. If it is desired to increase the air pressure more than necessary and above the limits of the compressors, the excess air required to do this is stored in the air tank. When adjusting the capacity of the air tank, the maximum pressure limit value of the compressor and the required amount of air must be observed.

Air tanks are tools that make compressed air systems work more efficiently. In general, when selecting air tanks, those with higher capacity than those required should be selected. This results in better performance in system pressure and increases.

For the safe operation of compressors and air tanks, installation and operation activities must be carried out in accordance with the rules and regular inspections and inspections should be carried out on time.

Control and Inspection Principles of Compressors and Air Tanks

In accordance with the Regulation on Health and Safety in the Use of Work Equipment issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, compressors and air tanks should be inspected and inspected at least once a year unless another period is stipulated in the relevant standards. This inspection must also be carried out by mechanical engineers, machine technicians or high technicians.

Compressors and air tanks are classified as pressure vessels in accordance with the provisions of the regulation. As a result of their careless and improper use, the safety of life and property is endangered for both the system operators and the surrounding people. Therefore, it must be used in accordance with the specified safety instructions and their regular maintenance must be done.

In this regulation, the standards that should be taken into consideration during the inspection and controls are shown as follows:

  • TS 1203 EN 286-1 Tanks - Simple - Non-flammable - Pressurized - Designed to store air or nitrogen - Part 1: Pressure tanks for general purposes
  • TS EN 1012-1 Compressors and vacuum pumps - Safety rules - Part 1: Air compressors
  • TS EN 13445-5 Pressure receptacles - Non-contact - Section 5: Inspection and testing

Like many test and inspection organizations TÜRCERT Technical Control and Certification Inc. performs the control and inspection operations of the compressors and air tanks within the scope of the regular controls and inspections of the pressure vessels and issues reports if deemed appropriate. Our organization has a competent manager and employee staff and a strong infrastructure in this field.
