Heating boilers or hot water boilers are classified according to the material used in their production. Some of them are made of cast iron and some of them are made of steel sheets. In addition, heating boilers are solid, liquid and gas fueled according to the three types.
Cast sliced heating boilers are manufactured from cast iron and in slices. These boilers are used both in hot water installations and in steam heating installations whose pressure does not exceed 1 bar. These boilers are designed to operate with solid fuels such as wood, coal and similar fuels, liquid fuels such as fuel oil or diesel, or with natural gas and LPG.
Steel heating boilers are produced by using steel sheets. It is used in small and medium sized central heating systems. They can work by burning solid, liquid and gas. Steel boilers have semi-cylindrical, cylindrical and prismatic types. Semi-cylindrical boilers are generally used in small and medium-sized plants.
Steel hot water boilers are within the scope of “TS 497 Boilers - Steel material (welded)” standard. This standard applies to hot water boilers with the highest pressure 5 bar.
Steam and boiling water boilers are within the scope of “EN 12953-1 Cylindrical Boilers - Part 1: General” standard. This standard replaces the TS 377 standard. Hot water boilers with pressure higher than 5 bar are made cylindrical.
The biggest risk in heating boilers or hot water boilers is that water vapor and acid condensation on cold surfaces in case of operation at low temperatures. This causes the boilers to rot and drill.
It has been observed that faulty safety valves are used in closed expansion systems in all heating or hot water boiler failures resulting in explosion. However, there should be no valve between the safety valve and the boiler. Expansion safety systems in heating boilers have different properties in coal boilers and liquid or gas fuel boilers compared to the combustion systems of boilers. Open expansion system should be used in coal boilers. Closed expansion system (membrane tank) should not be used.
As a result, heating boilers are classified as pressure vessels, and the safety of life and property is endangered for both the operating of the system and the surrounding people after incorrect and careless use. For this reason, heating boilers should be used in accordance with the determined safety instructions and they should be serviced regularly.
Control and Inspection Principles of Heating (Hot Water) Boilers
According to the Regulation on Health and Safety in the Use of Work Equipment issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, heating boilers and hot water boilers should be inspected and inspected at least once a year unless another period is stipulated in the relevant standards. This inspection work must only be carried out by mechanical engineers, machine technicians or high technicians.
Without prejudice to the provisions of the legal regulations such as the Pressure Equipment Regulation, the Portable Pressure Equipment Regulation and the Simple Pressure Vessels Regulation, the control and inspection procedures to be performed shall be carried out in accordance with the criteria described in the TS EN 12952-6 standard.
