Container Quality Certificate

Containers are large steel boxes which are produced for transporting cargo in a way that is reliable, economical and undamaged in international transportation system. The containers can be transported using different means of transport without unloading them. Container dimensions are defined by the ISO 6346 standard (TS EN ISO 6346 / A3 Cargo containers - Coding, identification and marking standard). Today, it is thought that there are close to million 20 containers used for different purposes all over the world.

When container transport is mentioned, it means the transportation works done with various containers. Containers can be loaded and transported in different ways as they are manufactured in accordance with the specified standards. This ensures efficient transport of loads.

Containers were first used in the mining industry in the UK. At the end of the 1700s, the coals loaded into wagon-like containers were loaded and shipped directly to the ships. In the 1830, many containers that can be transported by rail and by sea have started to be used. The first closed containers were used in 1900 years. Although container sizes were standardized in 1920 years, this standard was limited to England. Container transportation has been used in America especially during World War II. The first private ship to be used in container transport was built in Montreal in 1955 and this ship carried 600 containers on its first voyage.

As container transport began to intensify, it was a necessity to standardize container sizes. For this purpose, the following four ISO standards have been published:

  • R-668 Definitions, dimensions and criteria
  • R-790 Identification marking marks
  • R-1161 Container corner assembly
  • R-1897 Minimum internal dimensions for general purpose transport container

ISO 9001 Standard for Container Transport Activities

Today, almost all of the cargo transportation is carried out by container transportation. Container transport has led to an increase in trade volume. In addition, the standardization of container dimensions has led to the transportation vehicles to meet certain standards. The closed and non-revealing structure of the containers and the fact that the doors can be monitored through electronic systems throughout the journey have also increased the security of goods.

Besides, the companies providing container transportation services adhere to the principles of total quality management in order to be qualified and reliable in their activities.
