What is Quality Certificate

Regulation on Control of Hazardous Wastes has been issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. This regulation is designed to prevent the disposal of wastes in a manner that harms environmental conditions and human health, to reduce waste production at the source, inevitable disposal of the wastes in the nearest place where they are produced, to establish the facilities for the disposal of wastes and to control these facilities in a and the principles for determining the policy implementations.

In the annex of the regulation, disposal methods for hazardous wastes are explained. For example, deep injection, surface filling, regular storage below or above ground requiring special engineering, biological processes, physical and chemical processes, incineration, continuous storage and temporary storage methods. Again in the annex of the said regulation, recovery methods are also mentioned.

According to the results of a study conducted in 2014, there is an 117 waste disposal facility and 868 recovery facility in our country. 620 million tons of waste was disposed of in landfills with a total capacity of 41 million cubic meters. A total of 192 thousand tons of medical waste has been sterilized in sterilization facilities with an annual capacity of 67 thousand tons. 68 percent of this sterilized medical waste was disposed of in landfills. In the waste incineration plants with a total annual capacity of 111 tons, 40 thousand tons of hazardous and 3 thousand tons of non-hazardous waste were disposed of.

Regarding waste recovery activities, 310 thousand tons of waste was treated in composting facilities with a total capacity of 94 thousand tons per year. In addition, 532 thousand tons of waste were incinerated and energy recovery was realized in the co-incineration plants with waste recovery license. In addition, in other waste recovery facilities, a total of 19 million tons of waste metals, paper, plastics, minerals and similar materials were recovered. Briefly, approximately 20 million tons of waste was recovered in the recovery facilities.

ISO 9001 Standard in Waste Disposal Plants

These figures are promising. However, the important point is that waste disposal and recovery facilities attach importance to total quality management principles. They comply with ISO 9001 Quality Management System standards and receive ISO 9001 Quality Certification from an independent certification body. This document is therefore also called the Waste Disposal Quality Certificate.
